Happy Valentines Day!

I am so impressed with my son! Look what he sent his mama for Valentine's Day! (And he chose her favorite...sunflowers!)

Notice the lack of clutter on the beautiful wife's desk at work. Even the big mess is in a pile on the right. A meeting planner and organizer through and through she is! Had it not been for the flowers, she even would have less clutter! But I suppose that is the type of clutter that she WANTS to have!

Not only did he somehow learn how to use the internet and a credit card to order the flowers, but he also knew just what to say! What a kid!

Tonight, the beautiful wife, Sammy and I went out for a lovely early dinner at Maggiano's. And at dinner TBW gave me the most thoughtful card...which I won't share because it was too raunchy...just kidding...It did however really touch my heart. It was the perfect combination of words...loving and sweet! Great job Jody! Moreover, we had such a nice time at dinner...Sammy was learning Spanish from one of the bus boys and a nice older couple was getting drunk and making Sammy laugh at the table next to us. It was a really nice night out...and Sammy has finally reached the age where he can sit still for more than 5 minutes which makes restaurants much more fun!

It was a great Valentine's Day with my two loves...my beautiful wife and my wonderful son! Who could ask for anything more??

OK...if I could ask for one thing more...here it is...

Tonight I ask, could there please be less homicides and more suicides?

I arrived home to hear the news of yet ANOTHER mass shooting tonight. And of course, after killing multiple people, this fabulous carbon based life form killed himself.

So here is an open note to anyone out there with a collection of guns, severe mental problems, and too much time on your hands.

Dear psychotic pieces of filth,

Next time one of you has the big idea of killing a bunch of random people and then offing yourself, do us all a favor and cut out the middleman...just stay home and shoot yourself...it will be a lot less paperwork for the police...and then my poor wife won't be afraid to go to the mall...or to school...or to step out the front door.

And make sure you don't leave a note...we don't care about you enough to read it.

Thanks,

The Egel Nest

What a wonderful Valentine's Day celebration!

Re: moronic murderers:
If you're going to off yourself, do it in such a way that it DOESN'T involve your closest relatives/loved ones finding your stinking, brains-splattered-everywhere corpse.

Thank you for your consideration.

I am employed by NIU and two of my coworkers are actually located on the campus where the shooting was. They were on lockdown but are fine. I'm a clinical social worker and I'm supposed to know what is wrong with people, but in these situations it's so hard to have a satisfying answer.

Anyway, HAPPY VALENTINES DAY TO MY WONDERFUL BRO, SIS-IN-LAW AND MY ADORABLE LITTLE NEPHEW!

There would be no room for flowers on my desk. It's buried. Sammy & Mr. Staples sure did a good job!

Happy Valentine's day to you as well! Ohh what a treat to have sunflowers in the middle of winter. Pat your son on the back for me.

Me and hubby exchanged cards and he also brought me a potted flowering plant. (I'm not good at flower or plants names.) I cooked a special dinner for the two of us.

Ack. I read that on my homepage. Cowards. Every one of them.

Sammy is the smartest I tell ya! No bout adout it!

I was blog-reading (go figure) when they came on the news about the campus shooting... I just stopped what I was doing and was speechless - I was trying to tell my husband, but I just couldn't believe it had happened yet again!

Sammy & Mr Staples did awesome!

I so agree with your open letter. I'm so tired of random senseless acts of violence.

Amen on the letter! I've often said that people who are planning a murder/suicide need to do the suicide first.

Lovely flowers, what a thoughtful boy you have.

like the last one who said 'now I'll be famous' I thought ... well can the press at least make that statement false ... no?

nice to see that Sammy has class - sunflowers are way better than roses.
